Keeping Kids Busy on a Budget- Homemade Play Dough

13 10 2012

When the rain came this past week the kids started to become a little stir crazy in the confines of the house. Having five kids stir crazy makes me a little crazy myself, so I decided to whip up my favorite indoor secret weapon, Homemade Play Dough, for a little rainy day activity.

This is the very best Play Dough recipe I have ever used!

Ingredients:

1 Cup Flour

1 Cup Water

2 tsp. Cream of Tartar

½ Cup Salt

2 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil

Food Coloring

First start by mixing all the ingredients together in a medium pot,

I use a whisk and make sure all of the flour blends in well with the rest of the ingredients.

Next, turn the heat on low/medium.  Start stirring with a spoon and DO NOT STOP!

The mixture will slowly turn from a liquid form into a ball.

After this ball like substance forms remove from the heat.

Let the dough sit for a bit to cool off, then knead for a few minutes.

Good luck keeping the little grubbies off!

Now you are ready to go.

This is sure to keep the kids busy for a while.

If the Play Dough is stored in an airtight container it will keep for a long time.

Do you have any ideas for keeping the kiddos busy on a rainy day?
